Abbie Milne is completing her Marketing Executive Apprenticeship with Mersey Maritime through Oxford Professional Education Group. Abbie tells us about her experience so far.

Why did you decide to sign up for the apprenticeship?

Before starting my apprenticeship, I was studying for my A levels taking Maths, Business and Psychology. I was never passionate about learning in a classroom 5 days a week as I knew my skills weren’t fully utilised there and university wasn’t the route I wanted to take, so I started looking into what areas my skills best fitted. That’s when I came across the option of a marketing apprenticeship.

How are you finding the apprenticeship?

I am loving my Marketing Executive Apprenticeship, it’s the best decision I have made! I’ve had so much support from Oxford Professional Educational Group and Mersey Maritime in my role. It is definitely key to have a balance to make sure you are performing well in your job role and your course. Mersey Maritime always find ways to support me and to ensure my role aligns with what I am learning.

How does the apprenticeship support your daily work?

I can always apply what I am learning on the course to my daily tasks and it helps to give me a better understanding of my work and the impact it has on the organisation. Starting the apprenticeship has given me great confidence in my role knowing the theory behind the work I am doing.

Tell us about the company and what your job role involves?

Mersey Maritime is a regional cluster organisation for the maritime industry whose mission is to be a catalyst for growth by driving change in the Liverpool City Region. My job role involves creating and posting social media content across all of our channels, looking into analytics and making sure our website is always up to date. I also assist in organising and setting up monthly events which focus on bringing together the North West maritime industry.

How does Oxford Professional Education Group support you in your apprenticeship?

The tutors and support team have offered incredible help both inside and outside of the classroom. They are always only an email away and constantly provide advice on my learning, making sure I am striving to reach my greatest potential and helping me with any concerns I have. There are also monthly 1-2-1 meetings I have with my tutor to ensure I am on track with the course.

Would you recommend this apprenticeship to others?

I would definitely recommend this apprenticeship to anyone thinking about it. It is a great way to learn the theory behind the work you are doing on a daily basis. You receive so much support from the college, giving you experience in the industry with a recognisable qualification without going to university.

What advice would you give to someone thinking of starting an apprenticeship?

I would say it is a great path to take and to just go for it! It can open so many doors to your future career while also gaining qualifications. The apprenticeship is massively rewarding and provides you with so much exposure to the corporate world which you just wouldn’t get in university. There is always something new to learn, so make sure you submerge yourself fully into your role and your course!
