Who is it for?

The primary role of an IT Technical Salesperson is to sell a company’s technical products and services. They need a good knowledge and understanding of the portfolio of technologies that are available. They work to maintain good relationships with existing clients, gaining repeat business wherever possible from customers both internal and external, UK or internationally. They also approach potential customers with the aim of winning new business. They maintain a thorough understanding of existing technologies and those that are emerging.

What will be covered?

Upon completion of the apprenticeship, those in IT Technical Sales will have knowledge and an understanding of:

  • Working Knowledge of Cloud and Cloud Services

  • Data Storage and Securing Coding

  • Principles and Ethics of Sales, Recognising the Importance of Delivering Value to the Customer

  • Sales Lifecycle, Techniques and Processes

  • Negotiate, Handle Objections and Close Sales

  • Understand the Product they are Responsible for Selling

Upon completion of the apprenticeship, Sales Executives will have and be able to exhibit skills in the following areas:

  • Logical and Creative Thinking

  • Interact Effectively and Professionally

  • Think Analytically

  • Work Independently

  • Through and Organised Approach

  • Internal and External Communications

Upon completion of the apprenticeship, Sales Executives will exhibit the following behaviours:

Funding Band



The duration of this apprenticeship is typically 12-18 months.

Entry Requirements

Entry requirements will be determined by individual employers. Those who are unsure should contact the team directly on 01865 515 255, or via email at  Apprentices without Level 2 English and maths will need to achieve this level prior to taking the end-point assessment. For those with an education, health and care plan or a legacy statement the apprenticeships English and maths minimum requirement is Entry Level 3 and British Sign Language qualification are an alternative to English qualifications for whom this is their primary language.


This apprenticeship standard is at Level 3, similar to A-Levels.

Professional Recognition

This apprenticeship is recognised for entry on to the Register of IT Technicians and those completing their apprenticeships are eligible to apply for registration.
